SEO topical map
Research a domain, organize keywords into topic clusters, review coverage, and start article work.
What this page is for
The Topical Map organizes relevant search topics into clusters and content ideas. Use it to understand coverage, avoid duplicate pages, and choose defensible next topics.
The map is a planning tool. Search volume, difficulty, and opportunity indicators should support editorial judgment, not replace it.
Run research
- Open Grow > SEO > Topical Map.
- Confirm the domain shown in the research field. Use the production website domain without an unrelated path.
- Click Run Research.
- Leave the page open or return later; the progress state can resume.
- Review the new or updated clusters after research finishes.
Research may take several minutes. Use Cancel only when the run should stop.
Use the cluster panel
The left panel lists topic clusters. Each cluster summarizes keyword count, search demand, difficulty, and how much of the cluster is covered.
- Click All Keywords for the complete inventory.
- Click a cluster to focus on one topic.
- Compare high-value clusters with existing and planned content.
- Prefer one strong page or a deliberate group of complementary pages over several near-duplicates.
Switch between Ideas and Keywords
When a cluster contains grouped ideas, two views are available:
| View | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Ideas | Review a proposed article concept that can cover several related keywords |
| Keywords | Inspect individual queries and update their workflow status |
Click an idea name for its detail drawer. Expand an idea row to see the related keywords behind it.
Search, filter, and sort
- Search for a keyword or phrase.
- Click Filter and choose one or more:
- Status
- Intent
- Keyword difficulty
- Current position
- Quick wins
- Click Apply.
- Remove individual filter pills or click Clear all.
- Click a column heading to sort by keyword or idea, volume, difficulty, position, or impressions.
Refresh GSC coverage updates Search Console coverage when the control is available. If it is disabled, the tooltip shows when the next refresh can run.
Understand the fields
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Volume | Estimated monthly searches; use directionally |
| KD | Relative keyword difficulty; it is not a guarantee of ranking |
| Pos | Current Search Console position when available |
| Impr. | Search Console impressions |
| Intent | The likely kind of search, such as informational, commercial, or transactional |
| Status | The content workflow state for the keyword or idea |
| Score | Content score for an associated Superpractice article, when available |
Use keyword statuses
| Status | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Discovered | The opportunity has been found but no decision has been made |
| Write | The topic is selected for new content |
| Continue | Keep the current coverage or work moving |
| Covered | Existing content already addresses the query |
| Optimizing | Existing content is being improved |
Update a status only after checking the current ranking URL and related content. Marking a keyword covered does not prove that the existing page is complete or effective.
Start article work
- Select up to the allowed number of ideas or keywords.
- Click Write Article or Write Articles.
- Expand each proposed article in the direction window.
- Add optional editorial direction and up to three useful source URLs.
- Click Write to start the work, or Skip and Write when no extra direction is needed.
- Track the new work in Content Schedule.
Always review generated content for legal accuracy, firm-specific claims, citations, usefulness, and duplication before approving it.
If the map is empty or outdated
- Run research for the correct domain.
- Clear search text and filters.
- Select All Keywords.
- Connect Search Console if position, impressions, or coverage is missing.
- Refresh GSC coverage when the control is eligible.
- Allow an active research run to finish before starting another.
