SEO competitor intelligence
Add relevant competitors, compare keyword visibility, and turn validated gaps into content work.
What this page is for
The Competitor Intel page compares the firm's search visibility with selected websites.
Use it to find important topics another site ranks for, understand shared coverage, and identify places where your existing content performs better.
Choose useful comparisons
Add sites that compete for the same prospective clients or relevant searches. A large national publisher may provide context, but it may not be a useful operational benchmark for a local firm.
Add a competitor
- Open Grow > SEO > Competitor Intel.
- Enter a competitor domain in the field below the competitor list.
- Click Add.
- Wait for the initial sync to finish.
- Open the competitor card to review its analysis and keywords.
You can track up to the limit shown beside Competitors. Remove an outdated competitor before adding another when the limit is reached.
Use the competitor panel
| Selection | What it shows |
|---|---|
| All Competitors | An aggregated view across the tracked competitor set |
| Your Site | The firm's own ranked keyword profile |
| One competitor | A direct comparison with that domain |
Cards summarize keyword count, estimated demand, average position, relative visibility, and the last sync time. These are comparison signals, not audited traffic totals.
Refresh or remove a competitor
- Open the competitor detail.
- Click the refresh control to request current data.
- Wait for the sync banner to finish before interpreting changes.
- Use the remove control only when the domain should leave the tracked set.
Removing a competitor changes future comparison views. It does not change the competitor's website or your published content.
Filter the keyword table
- Search by keyword.
- Choose All Clusters or one topical cluster.
- Choose a comparison type:
| Type | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Gap | The competitor ranks and your site does not currently have comparable visibility |
| Overlap | Both sites rank for the keyword |
| Winning | Your site currently outranks the selected competitor |
- Click a sortable heading to compare volume, difficulty, estimated traffic, competitor position, or your position.
- Use Prev and Next for additional results.
In Your Site, the comparison type is not shown because the rows describe your own rankings.
Read a keyword row
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Keyword | The search query |
| Vol | Estimated monthly search demand |
| KD | Relative keyword difficulty |
| Traffic | Estimated traffic associated with the competitor's ranking |
| Comp | The competitor's average position |
| Yours | Your site's average position |
| GSC | Whether Search Console shows current coverage |
| Type | Gap, overlap, winning, or the applicable own-site state |
Open the competitor or firm URL to inspect the actual page before deciding what to do.
Start content from selected keywords
- Select one or more relevant keyword rows.
- Click the article action shown in the selection bar.
- Review the proposed article grouping.
- Add optional direction and reliable reference URLs.
- Start the work.
- Track it in Content Schedule.
Do not copy a competitor's wording, structure, claims, or proprietary material. Use the comparison to identify a user need your firm can answer accurately and more helpfully.
A good review process
- Confirm that the competitor serves the same audience.
- Filter to one relevant cluster.
- Review gap keywords with meaningful intent.
- Check whether an existing page already covers the topic.
- Decide whether to improve that page, create complementary content, or take no action.
- Measure the result over complete periods.
If data is missing
- Wait for the competitor sync to finish.
- Clear keyword, cluster, and comparison filters.
- Refresh a stale competitor.
- Connect Search Console for your-position and coverage context.
- Confirm the domain is valid and publicly accessible.
- Remember that estimates and Search Console data can update at different times.
