SEO Keyword Tracker

Find relevant keyword ideas, track their rankings over time, and start article workflows.

What this page is for

Keyword Tracker is where keyword research and rank tracking meet. Save the keywords you intend to target, then watch each one's position and six-month trend as your articles go live.

Use it when you want to research a specific topic or page, work with localized variations, turn a group of keywords into an article, and follow how those keywords rank afterward.

Read the summary cards

The cards at the top summarize your tracked set:

CardMeaning
Tracked KeywordsEvery keyword saved to the tracker, including keywords inside grouped ideas
Ranking · Page 1Keywords currently in positions 1–10, with how many entered page 1 this month
Avg PositionThe average position across ranking keywords, with the monthly change
Quick WinsKeywords ranked 4–15 with meaningful impressions but a low click-through rate
Not Ranking YetSaved keywords with no ranking yet — writing an article is how they enter

Find keywords

  1. Open Grow > SEO > Keyword Tracker.
  2. Click Find Keywords.
  3. Enter:
    • a topic or article idea
    • an article URL
    • or both
  4. Start the search.
  5. Review the grouped results. Each keyword carries a relevance label — Exact, Strong, or Related — judged against the topic and your firm's practice areas and location. Exact and strong matches are kept at any search volume; volume never outranks relevance.
  6. Switch between Hyper-relevant and Broader to tighten or widen the set.
  7. Select the relevant keywords. Exact matches are selected for you.
  8. Review or edit the proposed article title.
  9. Save the selection to the tracker.

Choose a coherent group that one useful article can address. Do not combine unrelated queries simply because they have search volume.

Review and track the list

Search the saved list by keyword or idea, and filter by position band, trend, or status. The table includes:

FieldMeaning
Keyword / IdeaA standalone query or a grouped article concept
VolumeEstimated monthly search demand (sortable)
KDRelative keyword difficulty
IntentThe likely kind of search
PosThe keyword's current Google position, from Search Console
Δ MoHow the position changed since last month
Trend · 6moA six-month position sparkline
StatusDiscovered, Write, Continue, Covered, or Optimizing
ScoreThe content score of an associated article

Click an idea name to open its detail drawer. Expand a grouped idea to see its keywords with their own positions and trends. Use Sync rankings to pull fresh positions, and Export to download the full list as a CSV.

Keywords that do not rank yet show Not ranking — that is the starting state, not an error. Rankings appear once an article is published and Google begins surfacing it.

Update a standalone keyword's status

  1. Click the status on the keyword row.
  2. Choose:
    • Discovered for an unreviewed opportunity
    • Write when new content is planned
    • Continue when current work should proceed
    • Covered when an existing page adequately addresses it
    • Optimizing when an existing page is being improved
  3. Verify the new label is shown.

Grouped ideas display their current workflow status but are managed through their associated content work.

  1. Select the idea or standalone keyword checkboxes, or use a row's Write article button.
  2. Click Write Article or Write Articles.
  3. Expand each article in the direction window.
  4. Add optional instructions and up to three reliable source URLs.
  5. Click Write.
  6. Use Skip and Write only when no additional direction is needed.
  7. Follow progress in Content Schedule.

Review every draft before approval. Confirm legal accuracy, claims, citations, tone, originality, and whether the page adds useful information.

Delete saved items

  1. Select the items.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Verify the selected count.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

Deletion is permanent

Deleting the selected keyword or idea cannot be undone. Clear the selection if the count is not what you expect.

Work with localized keywords

Localized opportunities can be sent to the Keyword Tracker from the Topical Map.

  1. Configure the firm's service areas in Settings.
  2. Select the applicable source keywords.
  3. Open the localization action.
  4. Review variations grouped by service area.
  5. Select only locations the firm genuinely serves.
  6. Save the selected variations to the tracker.

Avoid creating thin pages that differ only by city name. A localized page should contain accurate, location-relevant information and a clear reason to exist.

If no useful keywords appear

  • Try a clearer topic or a live article URL.
  • Switch to Broader to include more related terms.
  • Check that the subject is relevant to the firm's services and audience.
  • Remove overly narrow wording.
  • Configure service areas before attempting localization.
